Historic Hosanna School Museum Announces 10th Annual Freedom Weekend Celebration

Three-day Juneteenth experience will honor legacy, family, culture, and community June 12–14, 2026.
 
DARLINGTON, Md. - June 6, 2026 - PRLog -- The historic Hosanna School Museum — Harford County's first Freedmen's Bureau school founded in 1867 to educate formerly enslaved individuals and their families — announces its 10th Annual Juneteenth Celebration, now expanded into a three-day cultural experience titled Freedom Weekend, taking place June 12–14, 2026, in Darlington, Maryland.

The weekend-long celebration will bring together families, community members, churches, organizations, and cultural partners for three days of education, entertainment, fellowship, and reflection centered on history, heritage, and community empowerment.

Freedom Weekend Schedule — June 12–14, 2026

Friday, June 12th — Legacy & Empowerment Day
Workshops focused on genealogy, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, land ownership, and legacy-building.

Saturday, June 13th — Juneteenth Festival & Family Picnic
Celebrate freedom, culture, and community at the Juneteenth Festival & Family Picnic featuring live Main Stage performances by Will Spence Band, Marc Clarke, Saegin, Xaala Dance Troupe, and Epic Marching Band, along with a vendor marketplace, fish fry, historical re-enactments, museum tours, pony rides, and family-friendly activities. Guests can also visit the Empowerment Zone for community resources, voter registration, and health screenings and testing provided by University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health.

Sunday, June 14th — Faith, Family & Freedom Sunday
Community worship services across Harford County and an evening Gospel concert featuring Aaron Harris, Jade Madden, and Eric Waddell and the Voices of Inspiration.

This year's celebration places special emphasis on family, encouraging families to gather on the historic grounds for a relaxed, picnic-style experience. Families will have access to designated gathering areas, a Family Tree toolkit to explore their lineage, and a scheduled family-style group photo..

All are invited to participate in Freedom Weekend. Several state And county community leaders are confirmed to attend. The museum is currently welcoming partners to join its educational and community efforts and support programming that uplifts families and preserves cultural heritage.
