By: SGS Issued on May 4, 2026, the Regulation was adopted by the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport of the Netherlands and amends the requirements for food contact ceramics under the Commodities Act (Regulation on Packaging and Consumer Products). In addition to introducing stricter migration limits, the Regulation emphasizes the factors that economic operators must consider when assessing the migration of lead and cadmium and permits the application of Article 2(2) of Directive 84/500/EEC when insufficient compliance certainty can be demonstrated. This amendment will impact supply chain stakeholders such as manufacturers, retailers, importers and other intermediaries operating in the Dutch market . It took effect on May 29, 2026, with transition arrangements in place for food contact ceramics complying with the Commodities Act as it stood on May 28, 2026, and that were placed on the market before December 1, 2026.
