TAKIBI LLC announces the international debut of JUNKFOODGIRL®, a Japanese photography project celebrating desire, freedom, and the courage to live honestly. The exhibition opens May 17–23, 2026 at One Art Space, 23 Warren Street, Tribeca, New York. Admission is free.

■ What is JUNKFOODGIRL®?

It started with a simple observation. Watching a model resist junk food on set, photographer Ryo Murakami saw something he recognized: the quiet, daily act of suppressing what you actually want.

JUNKFOODGIRL® is his response. A photography project built around women and junk food — not as a joke, but as a declaration. There are nights when a convenience store snack at 2am hits harder than any Michelin-starred meal. The project says: that's okay. Eat what you want. Live how you want.

■ Five Cities. 1,000+ Visitors. Four Campaigns.

Since launching in Harajuku, Tokyo in 2022, JUNKFOODGIRL® has held five solo exhibitions across Japan — in Osaka, Okinawa, and twice more in Tokyo — drawing over 1,000 cumulative visitors. More than 185 models have joined the project voluntarily. The brand is a registered trademark. Four crowdfunding campaigns have been completed, with the last two reaching 151% and 144% of their targets. Murakami has also appeared on the Japanese television program "Reiwa no Tora."

■ Rejected Once. Now Showing in Tribeca.

The first attempt to bring JUNKFOODGIRL® to New York ended in silence — mass emails to galleries, no responses. The feedback, when it came, was blunt: not enough of a track record. Build something first.

So he did. Four years later, after a two-week Shinjuku exhibition that drew 600 visitors, Murakami reached out again. This time, the reply from One Art Space read: "We are so excited hearing about your project."
