2016 Serbian Smoked Trout Batch Reappears After Nearly a Decade

Around 6,000 tins from a 2016 production run of additive-free smoked rainbow trout are now being released worldwide.

VELIKA PLANA, Serbia - May 6, 2026 - PRLog -- VELIKA PLANA, Serbia — Last Catch 2016 has announced the release of a remaining batch of vintage smoked rainbow trout originally produced in 2016 using River Fish DOO's freshwater fish preservation technology.

The batch consists of approximately 6,000 tins from a single production run created nearly a decade ago. The trout was sourced from Lake Zaovine in the Zlatibor mountain region of western Serbia and preserved in sunflower oil without preservatives or artificial additives.

Originally developed as an experiment in long-term maturation, the product evolved naturally over time inside BPA-free tins under commercially sterilized conditions.

According to the producers, the project draws inspiration from the concept of vintage food products traditionally associated with certain European sardine preserves and wines, where a specific production year becomes part of the product's identity.

The trout was lightly smoked before preservation and packaged in 100-gram tins. Of the original 10,000 units produced in 2016, approximately 6,000 remain available.

The project is operated by the Todorović Agricultural Estate in Velika Plana, Serbia.
