![]() PFAS-tested: new dryspin® lead screw nut for quick replacementUniversal lead screw nut with flange from igus allows for a quick 1:1 conversion without design adjustments
By: igus® Singapore Pte Ltd As PFAS regulations continue to tighten worldwide, many machine builders are proactively converting components to PFAS-free solutions to ensure long-term regulatory compliance. However, alternatives for plastic lead screw nuts have been particularly limited. "To solve this dilemma, we developed a universal lead screw nut with flange that is PTFE-free and tested for the 96 most critical PFAS compounds," explains Thorben Hendricks, Head of dryspin® Lead Screw Technology at igus. "Its flexible flange hole pattern with both open and closed holes enables quick 1:1 replacement without costly adaptations." The new dryspin® universal lead screw nut is currently available in thread diameters of 6.35 mm, 8 mm and 10 mm, supporting a wide range of applications including packaging, automation and handling equipment. Longer service life through innovative thread geometry The nut blanks are injection-moulded from iglidur® JPF, a specially developed material free of PTFE. Customer-specific thread profiles are then integrated, including igus' patented dryspin thread design. Unlike conventional symmetrical threads, the dryspin profile features enlarged, asymmetrical thread teeth. Internal testing shows this geometry can deliver up to 30% longer service life compared to standard trapezoidal threads. Dry operation — no PTFE coating required Thanks to integrated solid lubricants within iglidur JPF, the universal lead screw nut operates entirely without external lubrication. This enables clean, low-maintenance, dry operation and eliminates the need for PTFE-coated lead screws. "This allows customers to implement complete PTFE-free and PFAS-tested lead screw drive systems," says Hendricks. With this innovation, igus offers design engineers a future-proof solution that combines regulatory security, durability and easy integration — without compromise.
