Launch of Climate Action and Clean Energy Initiative in Iraq

March 24, 2026 - PRLog -- Diwaniyah, Iraq – Sama Al-Ebtikar Foundation for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with local and international partners, has announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at advancing climate action in Iraq by promoting renewable energy and sustainable agricultural practices in rural communities.

The initiative focuses on empowering farmers to adopt solar-powered drip irrigation systems, helping reduce water consumption while increasing agricultural productivity. This approach also contributes to lowering carbon emissions and strengthening environmental sustainability.

Engineer Ra'ad Kurdi, a key leader of the initiative, emphasized that the project comes in response to the growing environmental challenges facing Iraq, highlighting the urgent need to transition toward innovative and clean energy solutions.

He added that the initiative seeks to build the capacity of local communities through targeted training programs, awareness campaigns, and the adoption of modern technologies that improve livelihoods and enhance food security.

The project also includes on-ground workshops, technical support for farmers, and the development of partnerships with government entities and civil society organizations to ensure long-term sustainability and scalability.

This initiative represents a significant step toward strengthening climate resilience in Iraq and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of water, energy, and agriculture.
