Veterans For Peace Launch 'New Mission' To Purge GE's Toxic Legacy At Deep Dive Summit - Sat Apr 25, 2026Inspired by the Camp Lejeune water contamination fight, VFP Chapter 186 joins Pulitzer winner Chris Hedges on April 25 to transition from "active duty to our rivers," demanding an end to General Electric's PCB contamination in the Housatonic Valley.
By: Veterans For Peace Daniel Shays Chapter 186 Taking a cue from USMC Master Sgt. Jerry Ensminger, whose relentless battle exposed the toxic water cover-up at Camp Lejeune, these veterans are framing the fight for clean water as a matter of domestic security and moral duty. "Following the path blazed by Sgt. Ensminger, we believe veterans are a vital front line in the environmental movement. Our mission to protect didn't end when we hung up the uniform. We are moving to a new mission: from active duty to our rivers. It is no longer acceptable for human health to be traded for profits," says Eric Wasileski, lead organizer of VFP Chapter 186 The event features a heavy-hitting lineup including Robert Jones (Lee Select Board) on the PCB dump, Dr. Robert Wespiser on health impacts, and Robert Heinzman on bioremediation. Chris Hedges will deliver the keynote, "The Blue Renewal," focusing on the necessity of purging industrial toxins from our commons. The DEEP DIVE event will take place Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. at the United Church of Christ, 110 South Street, Pittsfield. Event Schedule & Key Speakers:
