In the 2nd Edition, Kosinima, Inc.'s "Been Here: Shorts By Black Women Directors" Hits Senegal

NEW YORK - March 18, 2026 - PRLog -- KOSINIMA, Inc.'s initiative, "KOSINIMA Presents…" aims to grow the organization in reach and impact. "KOSINIMA PRESENTS…" is a curated film series by Executive Director, Oluwaseun Babalola, that hosts gatherings to celebrate the achievements of KOSINIMA, Inc.'s short film grantees and the local film community. These gatherings expose communities (rural and city) to Black/African art & filmmaking, all while fostering an environment for connection. The event remains open to all and hosts a safe space to have fun, network and connect.

Come through for an evening of culture, cinema, and community, presented in partnership with Centre Yennenga. On Est Là: Films de Femmes Noires Cinéastes" takes place on Friday, March 27th, at 6 PM at Centre Yennenga (Rue GD 62, Grand Dakar, Dakar, Senegal). Founded by Alain Gomis, Centre Yennenga uses cinema to promote media literacy and civic debate. It offers programming structured around social issues designed to stimulate reflection, combining film screenings with meetings and debates.

The heart of the event is a screening of four wonderful short films:

• Transaction (20 min) written & directed by Wanjeri Gakuru
• Afieni (Faith) (16 min) written & directed by Felene Cayetano
• Fighting Giants (9 min) written & directed by Oluwaseun Babalola
• The Incredible Sensational Fiancee of Dr. Seyi Ajayi (17 min) written & directed by Abbesi Akhamie

The intention of the event is to celebrate the work of current Black female directors and raise the question: "With talent available around the globe, why is there such a small percentage of Black women getting opportunity within the film industry and how can we bridge the gap?"

Guests can enjoy refreshments and networking after the program.

Free Admission.
