Independent film 'Manly' seeking fundingLos Angeles, CA - 3/18/26 - The independent film Manly, directed by Brian Eric Johnson, is set to start production this summer. The film explores themes of masculinity, relationships, and aging, and follows the story of two life-long friends who are confronted with cultural questions regarding what it is to be a man. Produced by Pete Bollinger of Cedar Films and Brian Eric Johnson of Lamppost Productions, Manly stars Roger Gutierrez (Ranchero, Rogue Cops) and features performances by Brian Eric Johnson (CholoZombies, Nova Vita) and Sophie Vanier (Blue Bloods, Boardwalk Empire). The film will be shot in Los Angeles in June and aims to bring a fresh perspective to the discussion of what constitutes masculinity. Due to Pete and Brian's numerous professional relationships with cast, crew, and vendors, Manly will be produced for a fraction of normal costs and still provide exceptional production value. Upon completion, Manly will be available to audiences through film festivals, theaters, and streaming platforms. About the Film Manly is a dramatic independent film that tells the story of Jason and Nick, best friends as long as they can remember. From grade-school pranksters to high school football teammates to military servicemen, the two have been nearly inseparable. The fork in the road came when Nick got married and had a son, while Jason continued his life as a single, fun-loving, plastic surgeon. Now, a year after his divorce, Nick has moved into Jason's house. In their 50's, the two men struggle with relationships, the meaning of manhood, and the physical and psychological declines of aging. About the Filmmakers After two decades as a police officer for the Santa Ana Police Department, Pete Bollinger began his film career in 2018 as writer, director, and producer of Mexican Mafia Assassin. Since then he has written and produced nearly a dozen feature films including The Opiate Diaries, CholoZombies, and the upcoming Rogue Cops. Brian Eric Johnson wrote, produced, and co-starred in the 35mm feature Ranchero featuring Danny Trejo. The film was acknowledged with numerous awards on the festival circuit and is currently showing on Tubi.
