What Does It Actually Cost to Move in Stockholm in 2026?

STOCKHOLM - Feb. 22, 2026 - PRLog -- Ask three people in Stockholm what they paid for their last move. You'll get three completely different answers. One says 2,500 SEK. Another 6,000. The third can't even remember because it was hourly billing and the invoice came as an unpleasant surprise.

That's the thing about moving in Stockholm. Nobody really knows what it's supposed to cost.

Nordflytt has completed over 10,000 moves across the Stockholm region since 2019. So we decided to open up our own numbers and show what moving actually costs, neighborhood by neighborhood.

Here's what surprised us: the most expensive moves don't happen in the wealthiest areas. They happen in Vasastan and Södermalm. Not because the furniture is fancier, but because the staircase was built in 1910, there's no elevator, and the nearest loading zone is 80 meters away. That alone adds 30 to 45 minutes compared to a move in the outer suburbs.

A typical two-bedroom apartment in central Stockholm without an elevator runs 5,000 to 6,000 SEK after the RUT tax deduction. The same move in Bromma or Täby, with elevator access and a shorter carry distance, lands at 2,500 to 3,500 SEK. Same furniture. 40 to 50 percent cheaper.

Average prices by area, after RUT deduction, with two movers and truck:

Central Stockholm (Södermalm, Vasastan, Östermalm, Kungsholmen, Norrmalm): 4,000 to 6,000 SEK

Northern suburbs (Täby, Danderyd, Sollentuna, Lidingö): 2,500 to 3,500 SEK

Western areas (Bromma, Sundbyberg, Solna, Järfälla): 2,500 to 3,500 SEK

Southern communities (Nacka, Huddinge, Tyresö, Haninge, Värmdö): 3,000 to 4,500 SEK

Three things drive the price more than people expect. Elevator access. Distance to the loading zone. And floor level. A move without an elevator in a turn-of-the-century building takes roughly twice as long as the same job with one.

The average cost of moving a two-bedroom apartment in Stockholm in 2026 sits somewhere between 3,000 and 5,000 SEK after the RUT deduction. It depends almost entirely on one thing: whether your building has an elevator.

The difference is in the staircase, not the furniture.
