238 chainflex cables receive certificate for use in dry Cleanrooms

SINGAPORE - Feb. 9, 2026 - PRLog -- As global demand for dry cleanrooms rises—driven largely by highly automated battery production—igus has expanded its certified product portfolio. In addition to its proven energy chains, the company's halogen‑free chainflex® TPE cables have now been successfully certified by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) for dry cleanroom Classes 4 and 5. This enables customers to rely on energy management solutions with a guaranteed service life of up to four years.

Dry cleanrooms are essential in the manufacture of lithium‑ion batteries, where even minimal moisture, dust, or particle emissions can compromise product quality. With humidity levels often below one percent, only components designed for such extreme conditions can operate reliably. "Many materials wear quickly in dry air and require frequent replacement," explains Kira Weller, Product Manager e‑chains and Cleanroom Expert at igus. "Working with Fraunhofer IPA, we ensure our motion plastics meet these demanding requirements."

The certification now covers 238 chainflex® TPE cables—high‑end control, bus, motor, robot, servo and measuring system cables engineered specifically for use in energy chains. After extensive testing in igus' 5,500 m² laboratory in Cologne, the cables achieved the two highest dry cleanroom ratings at Fraunhofer IPA. This confirms both low particulate emissions and long‑term material stability under dry conditions.
