By: Consulate of Equatorial Guinea President of the Patrice Emery Lumumba Foundation for Africa, a renowned architect, lawyer, statesman, and Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Roland-Gilbert Okito Lumumba dedicated his life to the defense of African dignity, justice, sovereignty, and the preservation of historical memory. Throughout his career, he stood as an unwavering advocate for peace, international dialogue, and the rights of African peoples. His intellectual rigor, moral authority, and commitment to Pan-African values earned him admiration far beyond national borders, among governments, academic circles, diplomatic missions, and civil-society institutions. His lifelong dedication to honoring the legacy of his father — one of the most powerful symbols of Africa's struggle for independence — was not merely historical, but profoundly contemporary: Roland-Gilbert Okito Lumumba maintained a particularly close and sincere relationship with Equatorial Guinea, its leadership, and its people. He visited the country regularly and cultivated a genuine affection for its culture and its citizens. His engagement there was guided by mutual respect and a shared belief in African solidarity. One year ago, he personally honored me by appointing me Director of the Patrice Emery Lumumba Foundation of the Congo — a gesture I shall forever remember with gratitude and emotion, and which I regarded as a mark of trust and brotherhood. Beyond his public stature, Roland was for me a close friend and a brother. His humanity, wisdom, and generosity of spirit defined him as much as his institutional responsibilities. His passing is mourned not only in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but also in Equatorial Guinea and across Africa, where he will remain in memory as one of the continent's steadfast voices for justice and dignity. Today, diplomats, scholars, civil-society leaders, and countless friends reflect upon the life of a man who sought reconciliation over division, dialogue over confrontation, and hope over despair. Roland-Gilbert Okito Lumumba leaves behind a remarkable moral, political, and human legacy — one that will continue to inspire future generations striving for peace, sovereignty, and cooperation across Africa and beyond. Rest in peace, dear Roland. Your life's work, your convictions, and your friendship will never be forgotten.
