PRLog -- On Friday, January 30th, 2026, at 12:55am, the Chicago Police Department received a frantic 9-1-1 call from someone who reported that a sibling was arguing with her 25-year-old boyfriend, Jawon A. Buchannan, in an apartment on W 78th Street near S Ashland Ave. when a shot rang out over their phone call, so when police arrived on the scene minutes later, they found a 23-year-old female victim shot in the leg and the boyfriend gone along with the shell casings from the scene. Buchannan, a convicted gun offender, was not legally allowed to carry the pistol, but is now on the loose in a white sedan wearing a multi-colored jacket. @Ms_RK8 (https://www.tiktok.com/@

Domestic violence against women seems to be the most common 9-1-1 call made to the Chicago Police Department, and their response is critical on whether or not the victim survives. A gunshot to the calf could be fatal if a major artery is hit and the victim loses too much blood, but luckily this woman survived. This is not the suspect's first gun offense, and it in unknown why he was released in order to re-offend.
