Participation is voluntary, confidential, and requires no identification. Trained staff and volunteers will be on-site at all locations to assist participants and ensure surveys are conducted respectfully and confidentially. "The Point-In-Time Count ensures that people experiencing homelessness are seen, counted, and connected," said a local organizer. "Accurate data allows Rapid City to pursue funding and develop programs that reflect the real needs of our community." Individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability are strongly encouraged to participate at any listed location. The data collected from the Point-In-Time Count directly impacts decisions on housing and supportive services in the community. About the Point-In-Time Count The Point-In-Time Count is conducted nationwide every January as required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The data gathered informs policy decisions and funding allocations at local, state, and federal levels.
