SAN JOSE, Calif. - Jan. 20, 2026 - PRLog -- Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley (BGCSV), a nonprofit youth services group providing after-school voluntary activities for young people through clubhouses across the valley, was honored to host Game On (https://sj26.sanjose.org/gameon), San Jose: Program Launch Day at the Smythe Clubhouse in East San Jose on January 15, an event by the City of San Jose to officially kickoff a citywide youth sports and community engagement program launched as part of the San José 2026 (SJ26) campaign.

"San Jose's historic year of global sports is about far more than games — it's about who we are becoming as a city and how every young person gets to share in that future," said Steve Wymer, BGCSV's President & CEO. "As the leading youth-serving organization in the city, we are committed to making sports more accessible to our youth and SJ26 is a tremendous catalyst in achieving that goal."

The program, which will include 50 school and community activations from January through June, will be delivered in partnership with organizations and teams committed to youth development, equity in sport, and long-term community impact—ensuring the SJ26 legacy reaches students across the city.

In his remarks at the event, City of San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan stated, "Our goal here for 2026 in San Jose has been to make our progress lasting, to make sure our investments go beyond this calendar year."

At the kickoff event, students engaged in street hockey and football drills. Mascots Sharkie of the San Jose Sharks, Gigante of the San Jose Giants, and Q from the Earthquakes also joined in on the fun. Additional attendees included City of San Jose Councilmember Domingo Candelas, Executive Director of San Jose Sports Authority John Poch, 49ers President Al Guido, Bay FC co-owner Brandi Chastain, Bay FC goalie Jordan Silkowitz, and former San Jose Earthquake Shea Salinas, as well as representatives from the Golden State Warriors and Golden State Valkyries.
