| Grosse Pointe History Day Returns February 7, 2026By: Learning Collaborative To coincide with the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, National History Day's 2026 contest theme is Revolution, Reaction, Reform in History. After selecting a historical topic that relates to an annual theme, students conduct extensive research by using libraries, archives, museums, and oral history interviews. They analyze and interpret their findings, draw conclusions about their topics' significance in history, and create final projects in one of five categories: documentary, exhibit, paper, performance, or website. The winner from each project category and age division (Grades 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12) then advances to the regionals, then to Michigan History Day. The Michigan finalists then compete against winners from across the U.S. at the National History Day finals in Washington, D.C. held in June. All children in Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods - whether in public, private, or parochial school, and/or homeschool or in an after school program – are encouraged to participate. Teachers must register interested students by 11:59m EST Thursday, January 15! To secure entry they may contact Chris Hemler at chemler@uls.org or sign up directly at https://gplearns.uls.org/ If you are interested in contributing sponsorship dollars to help fund student financial awards and defray the cost of the event, please contact Cressie Boggs at cboggs@uls.org or visit https://www.uls.org/ End
