| Boeing's 22Year AS9100/IA9100 Certification Gap Raises Safety and Oversight Concerns Ahead of 2026A 23 Year Forensic Archive Reveals Systemic Quality Management Failures Affecting The Flying Public, Global Investors, And Logistics Providers.
By: GUBERMAN-PMC,LLC Since July 2002, Boeing has required its suppliers to maintain AS9100 certification under ANAB accreditation. However, Boeing's own major production facilities have never held AS9100 or IA9100 certification, despite performing the design, manufacturing, assembly, and integration activities that place them squarely within the scope of the standard. "The standard is clear," the report states. "AS9100 and IA9100 apply to any organization that designs or manufactures aircraft. There is no exemption for OEMs. The requirement is universal." Contradictions Between Public Statements and Factory Floor Reality On June 27, 2024, Boeing Vice President of Quality Elizabeth Lund told Reuters that Boeing was "willing and prepared" to obtain AS9100 certification and was "internally auditing as if certified." However, an independent review conducted in October 2024 at Boeing's Everett, Renton, Auburn, and Northfield facilities found no evidence of such internal auditing. Interviews with 300 to 600 employees revealed:
"These findings indicate a disconnect between public assurances and operational reality," the report notes. "Documentation gaps and lack of audit activity raise concerns about traceability, accountability, and long term fleet reliability." Rebranding of Standards and Oversight Bodies Raises Additional Questions The analysis also highlights recent changes in the naming of aerospace standards and accreditation bodies:
According to the archive, these changes do not alter the underlying requirements and do not resolve Boeing's 22 year certification gap. "Renaming the standard does not erase two decades of non compliance," Implications for the Flying Public, Investors, and Logistics Providers The findings carry significant implications for:
"A certification gap of this magnitude represents a material risk to safety, operational continuity, and financial stability," the report concludes. "As the industry enters 2026, this issue demands transparent review and corrective action."
