| Long Beach Central Area Association Sponsors 2026 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade and CelebrationThe Long Beach Central Area Association co-sponsored the parade and celebration from 1988-2007. In the spirit of justice, unity, and community, the non-profit organization is proud to support the event nearly 20 years later, as a community sponsor.
By: Long Beach Central Area Association The parade, scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026 in Central Long Beach, will once again bring together families, faith leaders, educators, artists, students, and local organizations. The parade will kick off at 10:00 a.m. at the intersection of Anaheim St. and MLK Ave. followed by festivities at MLK park to celebrate the life and enduring impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through entertainment, food, and community storytelling. "Sponsoring this parade is more than a celebration — it's a call to action," said John Malveaux, founder of Long Beach Central Area Association. "We're honored to stand with our community to uplift Dr. King's vision of equity, service, and unity." In approximately 1987, former Long Beach councilman Clarence Smith (1931-2013) spearheaded the founding of Long Beach Central Area Association to co-sponsor his then proposed MLK Jr. Celebration and Parade. Sponsorship contributes to parade logistics, programming, youth and business participation, and materials distributed during the event — ensuring that Dr. King's message reaches the next generation. The 2026 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade and Celebration is presented by the City of Long Beach and Office of Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro with support from the Port of Long Beach and other community sponsors.
