In the front crash test, the heads and necks of the driver and passenger were well protected. The driver's chest faced high impact forces and was rated weak. Knee protection was only marginal. Lower leg protection ranged from adequate to good. The footwell was unstable. The car's overall body structure was not very strong. In side impact tests, the pelvis was well protected and the abdomen was moderately protected. Head and chest protection were only marginal. The 2-airbag version did not take the side pole test because it does not have side curtain airbags. The 6-airbag version did the test. It gave good protection to the head and pelvis, but chest and abdomen protection were still only marginal. All Celerio models come with standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and front seatbelt reminders. Child safety was lower overall. The 2-airbag model scored 9.5 out of 49 points. The 6-airbag model scored 18.6 points. An 18-month-old in a rear-facing seat had weak chest protection in a front crash. Side crashes gave full protection. A 3-year-old in a forward-facing seat secured by an adult seatbelt scored zero in both front and side tests. The seat could not hold the child properly. Installing child seats was easier in the 6-airbag model. The 2-airbag model scored 3.5 out of 12. The 6-airbag model scored 10.6. Some rear seats do not have three-point seatbelts.
