| ![]() igus Wins "Maritime Innovator of the Year" for Mobile Shore Power SolutionMobile shore power system iMSPO plays a central role in promoting environmentally friendly and flexible port operations
By: igus® Singapore Pte Ltd The iMSPO addresses one of the biggest challenges in modern ports: providing reliable power connections for increasingly large vessels without costly infrastructure upgrades. Compliant with IEC 80005-1 standards, the system uses rail-mounted trolleys and igus' robust e-chain technology to deliver safe, mobile power along the entire berth. Unlike fixed installations, iMSPO minimizes hardwiring, lowers investment and maintenance costs, and ensures operational flexibility. Already deployed in major ports such as Hamburg, Copenhagen, Trieste, Valencia, and Bilbao, iMSPO has enabled over 250 ship connections, delivering 17 million kWh of clean energy. This innovation benefits both the environment and communities near harbors by reducing emissions and noise pollution. Chosen from 62 entries by a jury of 40 independent experts, igus' solution stood out for its role in advancing sustainable port operations. Accepting the award, Alan Kwoo, Port Technologies Manager at igus Canada, said: "We are proud to help ports and the maritime industry create a more sustainable future." Michael Blass, CEO e-chain systems at igus GmbH, added: "The success of iMSPO reinforces our commitment to smart, eco-friendly solutions for shipping and beyond.
