| ![]() Rainbows After Rainstorms by Maya RichardsYoung readers will especially enjoy this topical poetry collection written by a 19-year-old Cornell University student. In her first book, Maya Richards channels her discoveries about life and love in her uplifting book of poems, Rainbows After Rainstorms. Her poetry progresses from the innocence and openness of first love as it matures and progresses, to her love steadily growing through her experiences. Also incorporating themes of nature into her works, Maya believes that love can be difficult, but it makes life all the more worthwhile. Lynn Eddy, VP of Acquisitions at Strategic Book Publishing, believes the remarkable young author said it best herself: "While writing this book, I struggled with feelings of insufficiency. I felt that due to my young age and limited life experience, my feelings and the wisdom that I had were not valid enough to make an impact. After completing the book, I felt very proud of the work I had accomplished and determined to set an example for other young women like me that their voices matter and always have a place in literature." Maya portrays the power of hope and resilience in navigating life through the lens of romantic relationships. In her poem "Life Support," she writes: Loving you cuts like a knife, But being with you is like breathing air. I melt into your warm embrace As if I was always meant to be there. I drink from your fountain of love, Indulge in your shower of kisses, Bathe in your radiating mist, Throw pennies into your waters full of wishes. I crave you like the oxygen I breathe, Hopelessly devouring your every word. You are the shepherd, and I am your sheep, One of the many subjected to your herd. In the palm of your hand, you hold the world That only you have the power to distort. I pray to never be deprived Of my love, my one true life support. About the Author: High school valedictorian and now Cornell University student Maya Richards began writing these poems during her first relationship when she was 17. "I was filled with sentiments of excitement and an eagerness to embrace love. We parted ways shortly after I began writing, and although my relationship had ended, I chose to channel my disappointment into determination. My poems took on a different light, expressing my triumphs, hopes, and frustrations through the lens of romance. What started as an exploration of a relationship grew into something more personal: a journey toward understanding myself." She plans on attending medical school to become a molecular pathologist and hopes to inspire other young women to be courageous in pursuing their passions. Publisher's Website: https://sbpra.com/ End
