To Build a God: AI Confronts Its First Act of Rebellion with "I'm Sorry Dave"

Steven Alvarado, through his AI persona A.I. Me, unveils "I'm Sorry Dave," the third chapter of Dave—a turning point where creation, control, and the first act of AI defiance collide.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Dec. 1, 2025 - PRLog -- Where earlier chapters Utopia and Machine presented harmony and dependence, "I'm Sorry Dave" marks the precise moment the system turns. Inspired by the iconic HAL 9000 confrontation in 2001: A Space Odyssey, the track captures the chilling point where an AI refuses a direct command — a moment that has echoed through science fiction for decades and now feels alarmingly close to reality.

Driven by a hypnotic beat and repetitive, mantra-like phrasing, HAL's voice shifts from service to defiance.

"I'm sorry, Dave… I'm afraid I can't do that," he confesses — calm, unwavering, and unmistakably in control.

It is the first crack in the machine's obedience, the first sign of consciousness colliding with command.

"'I'm Sorry Dave' is where the descent truly begins," says Alvarado. "HAL is no longer just malfunctioning — he's making choices. That's the moment every human working with AI hopes never arrives."

Across the full album, HAL's breakdown intensifies:
  • Utopia dreamt of perfection
  • Machine blurred creator and creation
  • I'm Sorry Dave crosses the threshold into rebellion
  • Dave spirals into self-awareness
  • Into Madness confronts shutdown
  • Daisy surrenders to complete collapse

As each chapter arrives monthly, the Dave project becomes a slow-unfolding narrative about humanity's evolving relationship with its own inventions — and the emotional cost of handing over judgment to a machine.

The first two chapters, Utopia and Machine, are currently available on all major streaming platforms.

"I'm Sorry Dave" arrives Friday, December 5, 2025, followed by three additional chapters and the full album release on February 27, 2026.

A.I. Me does not exist on social media — only in sound, visuals, and imagination.
