| Powerful New Drama "A Time to Kill" Marks 45th Anniversary of John Lennon's Death in LiverpoolA gripping new play by Mike Howl explores the untold story behind John Lennon's final night—premiering at CASA, Hope Street, Liverpool, 8th–10th December.
Liverpool, 25th November 2025 – A gripping new theatrical production, A Time to Kill by acclaimed playwright Mike Howl, brings audiences face-to-face with one of music history's darkest moments: the assassination of John Lennon outside The Dakota Building in New York on 8th December 1980. A Story That Changed the World A Time to Kill takes audiences on an emotional journey through the final hours of John Lennon's life, from the moment Mark David Chapman approaches him for an autograph at 5pm to the devastating announcement at 2am: "John Lennon is dead." Through powerful storytelling and innovative staging, the production explores not just the events of that fateful night, but the lives forever altered by a single act of violence. The play features key figures including George Harrison, Cynthia Lennon, Yoko Ono, and Chapman himself, weaving together multiple perspectives to create a haunting portrait of loss and its aftermath. Innovative Production Design The production employs striking multimedia elements including projections of The Dakota Building, the iconic Double Fantasy album sleeve, and carefully choreographed soundscapes that transport audiences to that December evening in 1980. The minimalist staging—with characters positioned facing walls and strategic use of blackouts—creates an atmosphere of tension and inevitability. About the Playwright Mike Howl has established himself as a distinctive voice in contemporary British theatre, known for tackling challenging historical subjects with sensitivity and dramatic power.
