Family Books, Legends and DNA Contributed to Creation of Multimedia Audiobook Trilogy

Family books and DNA provided the understanding needed to create "Wetion," historical fiction based on fact

COURTENAY COMOX, British Columbia - Nov. 28, 2025 - PRLog -- Family storytelling plays an integral role in western culture. Utah's Family Search Library alone has hundreds of thousands of family books. Disney has successfully marketed its products to family audiences for over a century. Overall, the entertainment industry has long catered to consumers' appetite for topics familiar. These points were considered during the creation of Wetion (2nd edn), a book about families.

Family books are about history. Several contributed to the stories of Wetion (2nd edn). From the Scottish branch of a family tree came the Blairs of Drummond, (MB Hawkins, 1985). This self-published title chronicled their journey west in 1821. The History of the Engel, Haubrich, Kraus and Peace told of four families' mass migration from the Austrian-Hungarian empire in 1897. Leaving an empire in the waning stages for another on the rise produced a diary of timely tales. It was also found to be a reoccurring theme throughout much of the 50,000 years of history touched upon.

Legends and lore added more. The Scots themselves had come from the Kingdom of France eight centuries earlier, changing their surnames from Frances to Blair to fit in. The fascination with a Lady proved sobering after learning of her first attempts to make bread soon after migrating to the woods of the Ottawa Valley with four children in tow. Discovering character traits and skills passed through the generations was noteworthy.

Could the story be both entertaining and educational? Laura Ingalls Wilder's book series, The Little House on the Prairie provided an example of how simple history appeals to so many. And Aesop's Fables showed the enduring power of storytelling made compelling through the use of allegories. Wetion was designed to be believable and meaningful.

DNA added another layer of authenticity. Genealogical tests contributed to the character's identity as "the survivors." Hellen Keller, the famous writer, supplied a humbling quote used to guide writing about heritage. "There is no king who has not had a slave among his ancestors, and no slave who has not had a king among his." Real families have their ups and downs.

Wetion can be found in the Library and Archives of Canada. It is distributed in various formats by booksellers locally and internationally, including Audible, Kobo, Kindle, Libro.fm and others and is an entrant in the 2026 Audie Awards.

The company respectfully acknowledges the land on which the audiobook musical was completed is the unceded traditional territory of the K'ómoks First Nation, traditional keepers of the place.
