New Templates for Planning Data Center Waste Heat Utilization Now Available in PolysunBy: Vela Solaris AG As the demand for sustainable heat sources rises and waste heat from data centres becomes more relevant, these templates offer a straightforward, validated method of modelling energy flows and verifying system performance. Users can simulate various integration methods, compare different system configurations and identify the most cost-effective solution in real operating conditions. The new hydraulic diagram templates cover most practical use cases and can be used to model optimal system designs. This graphical model helps engineers test heat pump configurations, temperature levels, thermal storage options and network layouts, accelerating project development and reducing planning risk. Use cases include: data centre district heating (with a heat pump reaching temperatures of 60–75 °C); bidirectional cold data centre district heating with decentralised heat pumps; direct supply to neighbours (e.g. swimming pools, greenhouses, campuses); free cooling for data centres via external air, lake or seawater. 'These practical templates enable planners to swiftly evaluate the technical feasibility of projects and generate dependable simulations for data centre heat recovery,' said Samuel Gähwiler from Vela Solaris. 'They support the growing demand for sustainable district heating and cooling strategies, providing a solid basis for engineering and investment decisions.'
