Sam Shoemaker inspired the founding principles of A.A.
Since launching the Steve Foreman Legacy Campaign earlier this year, CTBR has raised $148,000 toward its $200,000 goal. "This campaign isn't just about remembering the long-term sobriety and steadfast mission of Steve Foreman," said Chief Development Officer Renée Reynolds. "It's about continuing the message he carried so faithfully: that anyone, anywhere, can live recovered, truly happy, joyous, and free." Steve Foreman's recovery journey began in a moment of humility when his daughter, ashamed of his drinking, pronounced her deep embarrassment of him. That heartbreak led him to an A.A. meeting, where the only open chair happened to be beside Clarence Snyder, one of A.A.'s first 40 members and a contributor to The Big Book. Clarence became Steve's sponsor, and before his passing in 1984, he asked Steve and Sue Foreman to continue the original, spiritual message of recovery. Steve took that charge to heart. Alongside his wife Sue Foreman, Steve poured his life, gifts, and resources into building Came to Believe Recovery, a ministry that returns to the roots of A.A. where all Twelve Steps are taken in a single weekend, radically effective and transformative.
