CTBR Celebrates First-Ever Fall Benefit as Part of the Steve Foreman Legacy Campaign

On Thursday, September 25, Came to Believe Recovery (CTBR) hosted its first-ever Fall Benefit at the historic Calvary-St. George's Episcopal Church in Manhattan, the place where Rev. Sam Shoemaker inspired the founding principles of A.A.

NEW YORK - Nov. 19, 2025 - PRLog -- With live jazz, sober cocktails, and powerful testimonies of transformation, the evening honored the founders of Came To Believe Recovery, Sue Foreman and BJ Rapp, as well as the legacy of its late founder Steve Foreman, who passed away in March, 2025.

Since launching the Steve Foreman Legacy Campaign earlier this year, CTBR has raised $148,000 toward its $200,000 goal.

"This campaign isn't just about remembering the long-term sobriety and steadfast mission of Steve Foreman," said Chief Development Officer Renée Reynolds. "It's about continuing the message he carried so faithfully: that anyone, anywhere, can live recovered, truly happy, joyous, and free."

Steve Foreman's recovery journey began in a moment of humility when his daughter, ashamed of his drinking, pronounced her deep embarrassment of him. That heartbreak led him to an A.A. meeting, where the only open chair happened to be beside Clarence Snyder, one of A.A.'s first 40 members and a contributor to The Big Book. Clarence became Steve's sponsor, and before his passing in 1984, he asked Steve and Sue Foreman to continue the original, spiritual message of recovery.

Steve took that charge to heart.

Alongside his wife Sue Foreman, Steve poured his life, gifts, and resources into building Came to Believe Recovery, a ministry that returns to the roots of A.A. where all Twelve Steps are taken in a single weekend, radically effective and transformative. In 2015, CTBR was formally organized as a nonprofit. Under Steve's leadership, it expanded to include:
  • Over 30 in-person retreats annually
  • A virtual Twelve Step community and weekly podcast
  • Our Recovery Legacy workbook, with more than 3,500 distributed annually
  • A groundbreaking partnership with the Salvation Army ARC system
Steve witnessed the reach of this mission before his death in March 2025—a legacy now being honored and carried forward.

Campaign Impact So Far
  • $148,000 raised toward $200,000 goal
  • Funds free and low-cost retreats for underserved communities
  • Expands CTBR programming in prisons, ARC centers, and recovery homes
  • Supports the next phase of the Legacy Guide and 12 Step Video Series
The Steve Foreman Legacy Campaign continues through December 31, 2025.
