PRLog -- The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) 43rd General Conference concluded successfully in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Oct 30 - Nov 13, 2026. World Digital Technology Academy (WDTA) took part in the opening/closing ceremony, and "Trust, Transformation, and Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050"side event.
At the Conference, WDTA — together with UN bodies and partner countries — announced several major global initiatives:
the Digital World Conference (DWC) in Geneva and Seattle, the World Digital and Frontier Technology Awards (WDFTA), the Digital Talent Development Program (DigiBridge)
, and the AI Safe, Trust and Responsibility (AI STR) framework. They represent a strategic response to the defining opportunities and challenges of the digital era. Audrey Azoulay (ex-Director General), Khaled El-Enany (newly elected Director General), Lidia Brito (Assistant Director General), and Tawfik Jelassi (Assistant Director Generals) expressed high appreciation for WDTA's work, noting that its focus on AI for Education and Science was both timely and essential, responding to the urgent need for global cooperation and inclusive digital development.
The conference gathered more than 4,500 representatives from nearly 180 member states, making it one of UNESCO's largest meetings. Over two weeks, delegates set cooperation priorities in education, science, culture, communication and information.
