GENEVA - Nov. 7, 2025 - PRLog -- SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 160.25, highlighting India's consultation on proposed revisions to legislation that would ban two substances in food contact materials (FCMs) and articles.

The Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) sets and enforces safety and quality regulations for food produced, stored and distributed in the country, to protect consumer health. These regulations are intended to ensure businesses follow good manufacturing practices and comply with safe limits for residues and contaminants.

A 60-day consultation began on October 13, 2025, regarding the proposed prohibition of two substances under the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations, 2018.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 160.25 includes a helpful table with details of the substances and the specific applications under which they would be prohibited.

Stakeholders are encouraged to refer to the original SafeGuardS 160.25 for more details.
