South Asia Semiconductor Achieves Key Milestone with First Silicon Wafer for R&D

ISLAMABAD - Oct. 29, 2025 - PRLog -- Islamabad, Pakistan
South Asia Semiconductor Limited (SAS), a Pakistan-based startup led by Founder and CEO Toor Khan, has successfully acquired its first silicon wafer for research and development, marking a major milestone in the company's mission to build Pakistan's first semiconductor fabrication capability.

This wafer will be used for prototype transistor development and early-stage testing as part of SAS's pilot fabrication program. The initiative aims to train local engineers and students in practical semiconductor processing and eventually expand to manufacturing discrete devices, MEMS, and power ICs.
"Our goal is simple," said Toor Khan, Founder and CEO of SAS. "We want Pakistan to move from consuming chips to creating them. This wafer is our first tangible step in that direction."
SAS plans to document each R&D phase publicly to inspire students, attract investors, and lay the foundation for a full-scale semiconductor fabrication facility within the Islamabad Technology Zone (STZA).
