AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 27, 2025 - PRLog -- The maintainers of Meshery, the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) open source project, today announced the launch of the Certified Meshery Contributor (CMC) certification (https://meshery.io/blog/certified-meshery-contributor). This program is the first of its kind within the CNCF, created to formally acknowledge and authenticate the technical proficiency of developers contributing to the Meshery ecosystem.

As open source projects increasingly rely on vibrant contributor communities for innovation and sustainability, the CMC certification provides a formal pathway for individuals to demonstrate their technical proficiency. Tailored for developers with intermediate skills, the certification affirms capabilities in code implementation, testing, integration, and optimization within Meshery's codebase.

"The Certified Meshery Contributor program is a testament to our commitment to fostering a supportive and rewarding environment for our contributors," said Lee Calcote, maintainer of Meshery and founder of Layer5. "By offering this CNCF-first certification, we're not only validating skills but also empowering developers to showcase their contributions in a meaningful way, ultimately strengthening the entire cloud native community."

The certification consists of five distinct exams, each focused on one of Meshery's core architectural domains: Server, CLI, UI, Meshery Models, and Extensibility. The program is designed for developers with intermediate skills, along with hands-on experience in Meshery's codebase. The exams are offered free of charge and the certification is valid for two years.

With over 10,000 GitHub stars on Meshery, demand for the certification has soared. The CMC is the inaugural certification within the broader Meshery Certification Program, which includes specialized tracks for Administrators and Developers, with progressive tiers catering to different levels of expertise.

The new certification program builds on Meshery's established recognition initiatives, which honor user achievements and contributor milestones through badges. The CMC introduces a new Certification Badges category, joining Achievement Badges (e.g., for first deployments), Project Badges (e.g., for catalog contributions), and Community Badges (e.g., for mentoring). These badges serve as visible symbols of dedication and skill within the Meshery community.

Developers interested in earning the CMC certification can visit the Certified Meshery Contributor exam page to register and begin their journey.
