226 mathematicians from 100 countries gathered in Istanbul for the 33. Kangaroo Mathematics Congress

PARIS - Oct. 22, 2025 - PRLog -- The International Kangaroo Mathematics Association (AKSF) held its 33rd Congress in

Istanbul.

The Congress opened with remarks by Istanbul Provincial Director of National Education

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Mücahit Yentür and brought together 226 mathematicians from 100

countries. Following the opening session—also attended by Pendik District Director of National

Education Mr. Ertan Saygın and Mr. Kurtuluş Arıkan from Nazmi Arıkan Fen Bilimleri

Educational Institutions—the working sessions began to select the questions for the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition to be administered worldwide in 2026. Elections for the association's president and board members were also held during the congress at the Green Park Hotel

Istanbul.

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Mücahit Yentür emphasized the importance of

mathematics and science education, noting that scientific knowledge gains meaning when

combined with human values. Expressing his wish that the congress and its outcomes benefit

students in our country, Mr. Yentür highlighted the importance of early childhood education for

ages 4–6 and discussed practices aimed at further supporting talented students in later years.

At the meeting where the president and board were elected, Prof. Dr. Meike Akveld was

chosen as President of the Association, while Turkey's representative, Mr. Özgür Özdemir, and Brazil's representative Cristina Diaz were elected to the AKSF Board of Directors.

The Congress continued with a presentation by Prof. Dr. Meike Akveld, a faculty member at

ETH Zürich, and concluded on Sunday, October 19. Aiming to help students enjoy mathematics

through fun and creative problems, the Kangaroo Mathematics Association organizes an

international mathematics competition and activities for students and teachers each year in 114

countries, engaging nearly 7 million students.

In our country, Kangaroo Mathematics competitions have been held since 2014, reaching

hundreds of thousands of students and aiming to contribute to mathematics education. As the

AKSF Turkey Representation, which organized the Congress and also runs the Kangaroo

Mathematics competitions, we are proud to host an international congress of this scale and

wish for the Congress to benefit all our students and teachers.
