This signature community event brings together survivors, advocates, families, and community leaders for a powerful day of education, awareness, hope, and uniting in the human spirit. With domestic violence impacting 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men in their lifetime, this event aims to break the stigma, raise awareness, and promote healing through community action. The day kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with on-site registration, followed by an energetic warm-up led by Clayton County District 3 Commissioner Tashe' Allen. The 5K Walk/Run begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. Participants will compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies in both run and walk categories, along with the coveted Biggest Team Challenge Winner Trophy and a $50 cash prize for the most dedicated team. Following the morning race, the celebration continues with the Boots on the Ground: Unity in the Community Post Rally, a free and family-friendly festival open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and enjoy a day filled with entertainment, resource vendors, giveaways, and contests. Highlights include:
The event will also feature a touching "Remember My Name" Memorial Tribute, honoring Georgia's fatality victims who lost their lives to domestic violence — a solemn reminder of why this movement matters. "This event is about more than just walking or running," said Veda Brown, Executive Director of Sisters Empowerment Network, Inc. "It's about standing together as a community to support survivors, remember those we've lost, and raise awareness to end domestic violence once and for all." Registration fees apply only to 5K participants. While T-shirts and swag bags have sold out, community members can still register for the walk/run at: https://5kwalkagainstdomesticviolence.raceroster.com The Unity in the Community Post Rally is FREE and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to come cheer on the 5K participants, enjoy the festivities, and take advantage of free community resources.
