Phosphorus Trichloride Price Forecast 2025: Market Chart and Demand Insights

In North America, the Phosphorus Trichloride (PCl₃) Price Index remained broadly stable throughout Q2 2025, supported by steady domestic production and healthy inventory positions among key manufacturers.

NEW YORK - Oct. 7, 2025 - PRLog -- Asia-Pacific (APAC)

In the Asia-Pacific region, the Phosphorus Trichloride (PCl₃) market exhibited a modest downward correction during the second quarter of 2025. The Chinese market, which acts as a key global supply hub, witnessed a 3.6% quarter-on-quarter decline, with prices settling at approximately USD 835 per tonne FOB Shanghai by the end of June 2025. This softening trend was mainly attributed to sluggish downstream demand, lower export volumes, and a steady rise in inventory levels across major producers.

During the early part of Q2, Chinese producers operated at moderate capacity utilization rates, balancing between stable raw material costs and weak demand from end-use sectors such as agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and flame retardants. The supply scenario remained comfortable as domestic production was uninterrupted, supported by consistent availability of yellow phosphorus, the key feedstock used in PCl₃ manufacturing. However, the export market faced mild pressure due to weak buying interest from key importers in Southeast Asia and South Korea.

Additionally, declining international phosphorus derivatives prices, including phosphorus oxychloride and phosphorous acid, exerted downward pressure on PCl₃ quotations. Exporters from China adjusted their offers lower to stay competitive in global markets, especially as freight costs eased slightly compared to Q1 2025. The reduction in transportation and logistics expenses also contributed to the downward revision in FOB values from Chinese ports.

North America

In North America, the Phosphorus Trichloride (PCl₃) Price Index remained broadly stable throughout Q2 2025, supported by steady domestic production and healthy inventory positions among key manufacturers. Prices moved within a narrow range, reflecting balanced supply-demand fundamentals across industrial and agricultural applications.

Most U.S. producers operated under long-term contracts with major agrochemical, plasticizer, and specialty chemical manufacturers, reducing exposure to spot price volatility. Demand from the herbicide and pesticide sectors—a primary consumer base for PCl₃—remained consistent, though growth was limited by subdued agricultural activity and ongoing destocking trends in early Q2.

Europe

In Europe, the Phosphorus Trichloride (PCl₃) Price Index held largely steady through the second quarter of 2025. Market fundamentals were underpinned by continued imports from Asia, particularly China, and moderate domestic demand from the pharmaceutical and flame retardant sectors.

Despite sluggish macroeconomic activity in the region, steady consumption from specialty chemical producers and stabilizing freight rates kept prices anchored. Importers in countries like Germany, France, and the Netherlands maintained adequate stock levels throughout the quarter, avoiding large-scale replenishment amid weak downstream demand.
