Community Assistance Teams of Flagstaff (C.A.Ts) Celebrate Six Years of ServiceCommunity Assistance Teams of Flagstaff marks 6 years with Pop-Up Care Village, offering services, bikes & hope to the homeless Oct 19 at Bushmaster Park.
C.A.Ts often shortened to "Cats" is not about felines, but about people helping people. The nonprofit was founded to connect with those experiencing homelessness and hardship in Flagstaff. Over the years, it has become a trusted community anchor, bringing dignity, compassion, and practical solutions to some of the city's most vulnerable residents. The Pop-Up Care Village is a one-day event that transforms a space into a hub of resources, services, and community connection. Guests can access showers and hygiene supplies through C.A.Ts' Outreach Bus, medical screenings, food, clothing, haircuts, live music, and bicycle donations and repairs giving people reliable transportation to jobs, appointments, and services. For those living without shelter, these small things are life-changing. A donated bicycle can mean the difference between walking miles for food or employment and riding with freedom and dignity. One volunteer recalled: "We gave a bike to a man who had been walking across town every day. He held the handlebars, looked at us, and said, 'Now I can make it.' Moments like that are why we do this." Since its first Pop-Up Care Village six years ago, C.A.Ts has expanded its work with programs like C.A.Ts on Wheels, which delivers mobile services directly to people in need, and Many Homes, which works toward housing stability. Each year, the Pop-Up Care Village has created space where walls come down and community rises up where unsheltered neighbors are treated not as statistics, but as human beings. As C.A.Ts celebrates this six-year milestone, the need remains urgent. Homelessness in northern Arizona continues to grow, and resources are stretched thin. But through innovation, compassion, and community support, C.A.Ts is determined to meet the challenge. "Our mission has always been about strengthening community," the founders share. "It's about letting people know: you are seen, you belong, and you are not alone." http://www.cats- End
