Cairn India's Rajasthan Fields Confront Late-Life Production Challenges, Reports Indian Petroplus

DELHI, India - Sept. 24, 2025 - PRLog -- Indian Petroplus Dot Com, India's premier oil and gas intelligence platform, has released fresh analysis on the Government of India's Monthly Production Report (August 2025), which highlights growing operational and maturity-related challenges at Vedanta's Cairn Oil & Gas-operated Rajasthan block (RJ-ON-90/1).

Once the country's most prolific private-sector asset, the Rajasthan fields are now experiencing classic late-life production headaches. The government report cites rising water-cut and wax congealing at Guda field, along with well failures, polymer injection issues, and facility bottlenecks across Cairn's marquee pools.

Key Findings from the Report

• Mangala: Multiple well failures, reduced polymer injection.
• Bhagyam & Aishwariya: Unplanned well and surface downtime.
• Guda: Water-cut at Guda-2 and wax congealing at Guda-07.
• Saraswati: Delay in drilling and hook-up of Saraswati-9; underperformance of Saraswati-10.6.
• Tukaram: Facility constraint delaying activation of Tukaram-4.
• Gas Production: Declined in tandem with crude, underscoring oil-gas coupling.

As a result, Rajasthan's private/joint-venture crude output slipped to 249.09 TMT in August 2025 against a target of 326.27 TMT, well below August 2024's 286.86 TMT. Cumulative April–August 2025 output reached 1,260.73 TMT, compared to 1,522.96 TMT in the same period last year.

"These signs – from rising water-handling to wax deposition and chemical flooding shortfalls – are symptomatic of a basin in late life," said an Indian Petroplus Dot Com analyst. "They remain execution-manageable, but require sharper operational discipline and reliability routines."
