FORT MYERS, Fla. - Sept. 23, 2025 - PRLog -- Southwest Florida Proton has proudly recruited Linnae Campbell, MSHA, MS, CMD, R.T. (R)(T), as director of medical dosimetry, filling a crucial role in patient treatment at the region's first proton therapy center.

Working collaboratively with medical physicists and radiation oncologists, Campbell oversees the creation of individualized treatment plans that utilize data to design proton beams for optimized treatment for patients while sparing healthy tissue. These highly specialized plans are developed using advanced imaging and treatment planning systems, ensuring the highest level of precision and patient safety.

Campbell's career in medical dosimetry began in 2015, and since then she has built a multifaceted background in photon, proton and research dosimetry. She has held positions at leading institutions including Washington University in St. Louis, Emory Healthcare and Northwestern Medicine. Her expertise spans not only clinical planning but also process improvement projects that enhance both patient and employee satisfaction. Among her notable projects was an assessment of prostate cancer treatment planning for patients with hip replacements, demonstrating her ability to solve complex clinical challenges.

Campbell earned her bachelor's degree in radiological science at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (SIUC), where she went on to complete both radiation therapy and medical dosimetry programs. She is certified in radiologic science and radiation therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and is a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) through the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board. In 2020, she completed a master's degree in health care administration with a concentration in quality improvement.

Her leadership extends beyond the clinic into the national professional community. Since 2019, Campbell has volunteered with the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD), an organization in which she advanced from Continuing Education Committee member to chair and, in 2023, was elected to the board of directors. As of August 2025, she began her three-year term as president of the board. Campbell also contributes to the National Association of Proton Therapy (NAPT) by facilitating dosimetry roundtables and serves on the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Multi-Disciplinary Quality Assurance Committee.

Recognized nationally for her research and thought leadership, Campbell became a published author in the 2024 AAMD Medical Dosimetry Journal special proton issue and was honored as a 2025 Research Hero by Northwestern Medicine's West Region Radiation Oncology Research Group. She was also named a 2025 Academic Medical Center Patient Safety Champion for fostering a culture of safety through innovative use of visual aids. She has presented at numerous national conferences and webinars, including those hosted by AAMD, the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT), the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group North America (PTCOG-NA) and NAPT.
