Across Asia, millions of children remain in harmful institutions despite the fact that most have living parents. Hope and Homes for Children Asia will scale up the charity's work in countries such as Indiaand Nepal, where care reform is already helping children return home to safe, loving families. "We've been working across Asia since 2016, but establishing a formal entity in Hong Kong is a powerful next step. It will allow us to deepen our understanding of the devastating impact of institutionalisation— - Tessa Boudrie, Regional Director Asia In India (Jharkhand), Hope and Homes for Children and local partner CINI have reduced average stays in institutions from 12 months to just 3–4 months. They have reached more than 24,000 people with COVID-19 relief, provided emergency support to 52 parentless children, and trained 687 government officials on family-based care. In Nepal, the charity and its partners have reintegrated 155 children into families and closed nine illegal orphanages. They have also helped prevent 1,073 children from being separated from their parents, trained 28,773 community members in awareness activities, and supported a government shift in funding toward reintegration. Building on these successes, Hope and Homes for Children Asia will strengthen partnerships, support governments to transform childcare systems, and ensure more children grow up in safe and nurturing families rather than institutions.
