CHARLOTTE, N.C. -
Sept. 10, 2025 -
PRLog -- The United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) is proud to announce the 2025 Energy For Life Walk – Charlotte, taking place on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Pineville Lake Park. The walk unites families, friends, medical professionals, and community supporters in the fight against mitochondrial disease, one of the most prevalent genetic diseases without an FDA-approved treatment.
Since 1996, UMDF has invested nearly $18 million in mitochondrial research, fueling groundbreaking discoveries to alleviate symptoms and slow disease progression. Last year alone, Energy For Life Walkathons nationwide raised more than $500,000 to advance treatments and provide vital resources to affected families.
Mitochondrial disease impacts approximately 1 in 5,000 Americans, and more than 250 families in the Charlotte region are currently affected. The Energy For Life Walk provides these families with hope, visibility, and community support while raising critical funds to accelerate progress toward a cure.
This year's walk promises a family-friendly, inspiring experience featuring:
- Music, children's activities, and opportunities to connect with local families
- Visiting mitochondrial disease specialists sharing insights and updates
- Inspirational stories from patients and caregivers living with mitochondrial disease
- The walk itself, symbolizing unity and strength in the face of this devastating disease
The most anticipated piece to this year's Charlotte event is a post-walk, physicians-only Lunch & Learn, featuring Carolina-based mitochondrial disease specialists. This exclusive session offers a rare opportunity for medical professionals to network, exchange best practices, and discuss cutting-edge mitochondrial care—a vital step toward expanding clinical expertise and improving patient outcomes across the region.
