Pulse Center for Patient Safety Awarded Grant for World Patient Safety Day Initiative

WANTAGH, N.Y. - Sept. 2, 2025 - PRLog -- Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy (Pulse CPSEA), a Long Island-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving patient safety through advocacy and education, has been awarded a prestigious grant to participate in the World Patients Alliance (WPA) (https://www.worldpatientsalliance.org) celebration of World Patient Safety Day September 17, 2025.

Pulse CPSEA will participate in a special community awareness event on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation (https://www.snuuc.org), 228 South Ocean Avenue in Freeport, LI.

This year's theme, "Safe care for every newborn and every child; Patient safety from the start!" highlights the critical importance of protecting our youngest and most vulnerable patients from preventable harm in healthcare settings.

Established by the World Health Organization (https://www.who.int) (WHO) in 2019, World Patient Safety Day aims to raise global awareness about patient safety issues and promote actions to reduce avoidable harm in healthcare systems worldwide. According to WHO statistics, approximately 1 in 10 patients experiences harm while receiving hospital care, with even higher rates—4 out of 10 patients—in primary and ambulatory care settings. These concerning statistics are particularly pronounced among newborns and children in low-resource environments.

"Many of these harms are entirely preventable through safe practices, early education, and active engagement of families," said Ilene Corina, President of Pulse CPSEA. "This grant will allow us to expand our outreach and education efforts to help protect our community's children."

This special community day for vendors and speakers is being held at the same location where Pulse was founded in 1996.

The World Patients Alliance, which coordinates global activities for World Patient Safety Day, works as the global voice for patients to promote patient-centered healthcare policies and practices worldwide. Through collaborative initiatives with patients, families, health professionals, policymakers, and advocates, WPA aims to improve safety, quality, and equity in healthcare systems globally.

Community members are encouraged to attend this event and receive literature from the World Patients Alliance for children and adults.
