'The Winterpoor' A Novel That Brings Cape Cod's Hidden Heart to Life by George Michelsen Foy

CAPE COD, Mass. - Aug. 12, 2025 - PRLog -- The Winterpoor, the deeply atmospheric new novel by acclaimed author George Michelsen Foy, will be published this fall by Sea Crow Press, with a release date of September 2025.

Set against the rugged backdrop of off-season Cape Cod, far removed from the postcard-perfect tourist image, The Winterpoor follows Murdo Peters, a Cape native and struggling artist, as he grapples with personal trauma, economic hardship, and an uncertain future. He takes on the care of a mentally challenged and neglected boy while attempting to restore a decaying floating studio of a long-dead artist. His journey, haunted by addiction, environmental decay, and the raw struggles of year-round residents, becomes an unflinching exploration of human resilience and the power of art to endure.

Sea Crow Press describes the novel as "unique and groundbreaking," one that gives voice to the silent and often ignored inhabitants of Cape Cod, portraying a world that shivers in the ceaseless wind, where hope flickers against the gathering dark.

Praising the novel, William Martin, bestselling author of Cape Cod and December '41, writes:

"The Winterpoor brings Cape Cod to life as we have seldom seen it... where part-time jobs dry up after the tourists go home and problems deepen as the dark months go by... Read it and be transported."

Anne D. LeClaire, author of The Halo Effect and The Lavender Hour, adds:

"Foy explores the desperation, shame and panic of poverty... Three unforgettable characters—Murdo, Daisy and the mysterious Boy—have little but dashed dreams and despair and each other. Can their friendship, and a hopefulness both resilient and absurd, overcome their circumstances and save them?"

And Candace Hammond (author of Christmas in Cranberry Harbor) praises the writing:

"This exquisitely written novel will forever change how you see the seasonal Cape Cod communities you visit—and the people who call them home—in very profound ways."

The Winterpoor is available for preorder now in paperback (expected to ship August 2025) and eBook formats.
