Montford Point Marine Association to present scholarship at BBQ fundraiser

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Aug. 7, 2025 - PRLog -- The National Montford Point Marine Association Chapter 47 will host a Scholarship Fund BBQ Fundraiser on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm in the picnic area of Seacoast Church, 750 Long Point Rd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. The Chapter will also recognize its Scholarship recipient for 2025/6.

The National Montford Point Marine Association Chapter 47 will celebrate its three-year anniversary as it was chartered on August 26^th, Montford Point Marine Day, 2022, at the 57th National Convention held at the Montford Point Marines Museum, Building M101, Camp Johnson, North Carolina.

Who are the Montford Point Marines?
The Montford Point Marines were the first African Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps after President Franklin Roosevelt issued an Executive Order establishing the Fair Employment Practices Commission in June 1941. The recruits trained at Camp Montford Point in Jacksonville, NC from August 26, 1942, until the camp was decommissioned on September 9, 1949.

The BBQ fundraiser catered by veteran-owned J's Smoke-N-Q is open to the public. Tickets are $35.00 for two meats, three sides and a drink.
