National Montford Point Marine Association Local Chapter Announces 2024-25 Scholarship Recipient

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Aug. 7, 2025 - PRLog -- The National Montford Point Marine Association Charleston Chapter 47 is pleased to announce the recipient of its Scholarship for 2024-2025. The MPMA scholarships are awarded to high school seniors bound for an institution of higher learning with a minimum weighted or non-weighted GPA of 2.5 or higher and whose scholastic accomplishments, ingenuity, and dedicated service to the community is found to be exemplary.

Scholarships are awarded for academic performance, community involvement, and outstanding merit.

The National Montford Point Marine Association Charleston Chapter 47 Scholarship Committee is pleased to announce the scholarship recipient for 2024-2025 as follows:

DaNasia Hosey, a graduate of Stratford High School, is the recipient of a Scholarship in the amount of $1500.00, who will be attending Lander University

The National Montford Point Marine Association Charleston Chapter 47 Scholarship Committee will recognize DaNasia Hosey at their upcoming Scholarship Fund BBQ Fundraiser being held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 12 pm to 2 pm in the picnic area at Seacoast Church, 750 Long Point Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The BBQ is being catered by veteran-owned J's Smoke N Q.

Who are the Montford Point Marines?
The Montford Point Marines are the first African Americans to enlist in the U.S. Marine Corps after President Franklin Roosevelt issued an Executive Order establishing the Fair Employment Practices Commission in June 1941. The recruits trained at Camp Montford Point in Jacksonville, NC from August 26, 1942, until the camp was decommissioned on September 9, 1949.
