Celebrating Youth-Led Innovation: VEEC Completes Allied Health Ambassador Academy with Research

NEWARK, N.J. - Aug. 6, 2025 - PRLog -- Celebrating Youth-Led Innovation: VEEC Completes Allied Health Ambassador Academy with Capstone Event and Scholarships
Newark, NJ — The Vaccine Equity Education Coalition (VEEC) proudly celebrates the successful completion of its Summer 2025 Allied Health Ambassador Academy, a transformative five-week experience hosted at Weequahic High School. This initiative brought together rising 9th through 11th grade students to explore real-world public health challenges, develop community-focused solutions, and emerge as powerful youth leaders in health equity.

From Classroom to Community: Real-World Learning in Action
Over five weeks, VEEC Ambassadors tackled pressing public health issues, including vaccine equity and community health. With mentorship from VEEC Graduate Fellows representing institutions such as Rutgers, Columbia, and Yale, students researched health disparities, engaged in systems thinking, and designed multimedia campaigns and academic posters addressing root causes of inequity in their communities.

Empowerment through Leadership and Mentorship
The Academy featured engaging sessions with public health professionals, peer educators, and guest speakers, including global health leaders affiliated with the United Nations Foundation. Students developed critical skills in research, communication, and advocacy—skills they will carry with them into future careers and academic pathways.

A Research Capstone of Celebration and Impact

The experience culminated in a Capstone Health Event on July 31, where students presented their research and campaigns to community, school leaders, and health professionals. Standout projects were honored with scholarship awards, recognizing the creativity and leadership of Ambassadors driving real change in their communities.

"The Allied Health Ambassador Academy is more than a summer program—it's a launchpad for youth leadership, innovation, and lifelong impact," said Dr. Hajar Shirley, Project Director. "We're proud to witness how our students have grown as public health change agents and community advocates."

Looking Ahead: Opportunities for Collaboration
As VEEC looks to the future, the Academy serves as a scalable, impactful youth engagement program in public health. We welcome collaborations with schools, community organizations, funders, and health institutions interested in expanding this model to new locations. Whether it's launching similar academies, hosting innovation summits, or co-designing student-led health campaigns, VEEC is committed to growing a movement of young health equity leaders.
