Why UAW 2025 is Timely for Africa Across Africa, governments are prioritising food security, sustainable agriculture, and technology-driven solutions to feed growing urban populations. Highlighting this urgency, South Africa's Minister of Agriculture, John Steenhuisen recently emphasised that "Government, including the Department of Agriculture, cannot do this alone... building meaningful public-private partnerships is key to ensuring food security for all." Similarly, Nigeria's Minister of Agriculture & Food Security, Sen Abubakar Kyari, stated that "Food insecurity is national security," calling for greater investment in climate smart agriculture, irrigation, and agro processing to empower farmers and strengthen economies. Nigeria's Minister of Communications, Dr Bosun Tijani, also highlighted that "We need to introduce our technology into agriculture to produce enough food to feed ourselves… Without technology, countries like Nigeria cannot practise agriculture effectively." These sentiments echo the core mission of UAW 2025 – to unite global and African stakeholders in sharing knowledge, driving investment, and accelerating innovation in urban agriculture to achieve resilient and sustainable food systems. "Urban agriculture is key to building resilient and sustainable cities. UAW 2025 will serve as a bridge between innovators, policymakers, and communities to ensure food security and economic growth in cities worldwide," said Maggie Tan, CEO of Magenta Global Singapore, organizer of UAW 2025.
