These include:

• Typos. "Mistakes of any kind are an absolute no-no," says Fard. "It's the quickest way to take yourself out of consideration for a job". Fard advises clients to proofread their resumes several times and use spell-checking apps, too.
• Lack of Focus. "If you can't figure out what kind of job you want, how do you expect a prospective employer to know where to put you?" Fard says. "Your 'Summary of Qualifications' section of the resume should outline what you have to offer an employer."
• Not Standing Out from the Crowd. "Too many of the resumes I reviewed included generic content, which simply listed job responsibilities," Fard says. "You need to remember that employers want to hire employees who can produce results."
• Poorly-Formatted Resumes. "Good design can help set a resume apart," says Fard. "However, make sure the design is compatible with applicant tracking systems."
• Giving Too Little — or Too Much — Information. "Some people still believe the one-page resume myth," said Fard. "Consequently, they don't give the hiring manager enough information to decide whether to bring them in for an interview. On the other hand, a two-page resume is more than adequate for 95 percent of the population."
