Family Event to Raise Awareness for Adoption

Iowans for Adoption is hosting its annual Move for Adoption. This year, Prairie Meadows and Iowa Farm Bureau are presenting sponsors, and many other entities are sponsors.

Move for Adoption is an in person and virtual 5K run, walk, fun run, kids' fun run, and any other activities (roll, stroll, ride, or watch) for any distance.

The in-person event is Sunday, July 27 at Utopia Park, 7000 Vista Drive, West Des Moines, IA. The virtual event can be completed any day, any time, with any activity and for any distance, anywhere in the world. Virtual participants will be mailed a shirt for a $30 donation.

According to Dr. Diana Lang, Executive Director and Founder, "In Iowa, thousands of children are living in foster care.  And, more than 500 kids in Iowa's foster care system do not have any parents with legal rights; these kids are all waiting to be adopted. Also, it costs very little, and typically nothing, to adopt children from foster care."

Lang emphasizes, "Not everyone may be able to adopt or be a foster parent; there are many other ways to Move for Adoption. All are welcome to attend the event (or participate virtually) and run, roll, stroll, walk, or watch without registering or donating. We need everyone's help to ensure that all children have safe, loving, permanent families!"

According to Lang, "The goals of our Move for Adoption events are to:

*celebrate all members of the adoption triad, children, and families,
*raise awareness about all facets of adoption and foster care,
*help all children have a safe, permanent, loving, nurturing, stable family, and
*educate Iowans about the Safe Haven Act and adopting from foster care."

Registrations can be made at the event but shirts are not guaranteed to be available.
