[Los Angeles, CA – July 13, 2025] — Local author Irma Hersel is proud to announce that her bilingual children's book, Where Nopalitos Grow, is now part of the Los Angeles Public Library system. This exciting news follows the book's recent addition to the Chicago Public Library, expanding its reach to more young readers and families across the country. Inspired by Hersel's own childhood growing up in Michigan and traveling to Mexico each year to visit family, Where Nopalitos Grow is a heartfelt bilingual story about dreams, heritage, and connection. The story follows young Roberto, a boy who dreams of visiting Mexico . While helping his grandfather tend to a garden filled with nopalitos (cactus pads), Roberto begins to learn about the importance of goals, imagination, and cultural roots. Written in both English and Spanish, the book celebrates family bonds, tradition, and self-discovery through storytelling and nature. It has also inspired a downloadable activity pack and soon companion STEM-themed book that encourages children to explore gardening, goal-setting, and bilingual learning. "As someone who grew up between two cultures, it's important for me to create stories that reflect that experience," Readers can find Where Nopalitos Grow by searching the Los Angeles Public Library catalog at www.lapl.org Want Your Own Copy?
