Dramatic Reading of Frederick Douglass's July 4th Speech Counters Trump

LOS ANGELES - July 3, 2025 - PRLog -- Political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson contends that famed Black abolitionist Frederick Douglass's monumental speech. "What is the 4^th of July to the Save?" delivered in 1852 still has a vibrant and compelling message for 2025.

Douglass hammered hard on the issues of racial bigotry, economic injustice, and the importance of political engagement. Hutchinson says that Douglass would have been outraged at the stepped-up assaults by the Trump administration on DEI programs and initiatives. He would have been even more outraged at the rollback of civil rights, gender, and labor immigration reform gains in the Trump Era. Hutchinson has presented excerpts of Douglass's towering indictment of American injustice for several years to mark the 4^th of July celebrations.

"The Douglass speech is timeless," notes Hutchinson, "And continues to hold important lessons for those who are actively engaged in opposing the Trump rollback of the social and political gains made by women, minorities, LGBTQ, labor, and environmental groups in America.

Douglass would have pulled no punches in urging activists and concerned citizens to vigorously utilize every method of protest from demonstrations to the vote to combat the repressive juggernaut of Trump and the GOP.
