| ![]() Mali Phonpadith Returns as Featured Speaker for NCC's 2025 Catalyst Internship ProgramBy: SOAR Community Network Launched in the summer of 2024, the Catalyst Internship Program is a visionary initiative created through the combined efforts of NCC's Office of the President & CEO, the Office of the COO, and the Innovation Department. Its mission is to provide interns with hands-on, impactful experiences that not only align with NCC's values but also equip them with practical skills transferable across industries. "We are thrilled to share an exciting update as we gear up for the NCC Catalyst Internship Program 2025," said Misty Johnson-Oratokhai, COO of NCC. "We look forward to another incredible summer with this spectacular group of emerging talent." The eight-week program immerses interns in real-world projects that challenge them to apply critical thinking, conduct research, and work collaboratively to design solutions in alignment with the goals of their host departments. Through these capstone projects, students gain exposure to service, innovation, and leadership in action—an environment Mali Phonpadith deeply resonates with. Having escaped Laos with her family as a child refugee, Mali's early experiences navigating adversity, economic hardship, and cultural transition ignited in her a lifelong commitment to building a meaningful life for her family. From writing checks for bills at age eight to graduating magna cum laude from the University of Maryland and ultimately founding SOAR Community Network, Mali's journey is a living testament to resilience, self-determination, and compassionate leadership. "Mali is a model of what it means to rise through adversity with grace, grit, and vision," said an NCC program coordinator. "Her message last year made a lasting impression, and we are honored to welcome her back." Mali's return to NCC is more than a speaking engagement—it's a homecoming of spirit and shared mission. "These interns are not just our future workforce; they are the catalysts for a more compassionate, conscious society," she shares. "It is a joy and honor to pour into them, just as others once did for me."
