BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - June 20, 2025 - PRLog -- From the 15 to 20 September, a unique cultural ritual known as Ma'nene' is scheduled to take place in the highlands of Toraja in Indonesia.

Ma'nene – which means 'The Ceremony of Cleaning the Corpses' – is one of the most unique and sacred ancestral traditions, still practiced by the Torajan people.

The ritual involves opening the graves, cleaning and grooming the corpses, and parading the dead.

The mummies are sometimes carried around the village or their homes, before being  replaced back in their graves.

Bamboo Travel can arrange for this ancient ceremony to be witnessed on several of its private tours, including the 17-day Indonesia's Golden Triangle.

The tour provides a chance to discover Indonesia's fascinating heritage and culture, and to discover a trilogy of diverse and contrasting islands.

The holiday commences in Central Java, with two nights in the scenic valleys surrounding Borobudur, exploring small temples, local villages, and the world-famous Buddhist monument at sunrise.

Continue to the bustling city of Yogyakarta, often described as Indonesia's cultural capital, to visit the Hindu temples of Prambanan, the Sultan's Palace and to discover the backstreets which are well-known for their batik workshops.

Next up is a flight to the major city of Makassar in southern Sulawesi, a frantic yet fascinating port where cultures and traders convene from the remote eastern half of the archipelago, with a brief tour of the city's markets and colonial relics.

Head north to Sulawesi's Central Highlands to discover the strong cultural identity of the Toraja people, and to witness the extraordinary Ma'nene ceremony.

The trip ends with a short flights to the tropical island of Bali, with three-nights' R&R at an attractive beach resort on the quiet east coast.

The holiday costs from £3795 per person, based on two people sharing a room.  This includes international and domestic flights, all land transportation, 14-nights' B&B (plus two lunches and an evening meal), sightseeing/entrance fees and guides.
